Call for Applications – International Moot Courts at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU)

Application deadline: 31 May 2026

The Faculty of Law at Heinrich‑Heine‑University Düsseldorf offers motivated students the chance to take part in prestigious international moot courts. These include the Willem C. Vis Arbitration Moot Court, the Telders International Law Moot Court, the International and European Tax Moot Court and the IBA ICC Moot Court. Each competition provides valuable insight into a different area of law: international commercial law, public international law, international tax law, and international criminal law.

A moot court is a simulated court proceeding in which students from all semesters assume the role of lawyers and argue legal cases in a fictional trial - conducted in English and before international panels. Success depends not only on substantive legal knowledge but also on teamwork, rhetoric, and strategic thinking. The experience often involves travel and exchange with experts from around the world.

Within the framework of the new JAG NRW (Law on Legal Education North-Rhine-Westphalia), participation in a moot court can be credited according to:

  • § 7 Abs. 3 S. 3 JAG NRW – exemption from the fourth term‑paper, or
  • § 25 Abs. 2 S. 2 Nr. 5 JAG NRW – recognition as a free semester.

Depending on the specific moot court, participation may also be recognized as a focus achievement (Schwerpunktleistung).
