Holder of the Chair for Civil Law, German and European Competition Law, Heinrich Heine Universität Düsseldorf (since 10/2016); Director of the Institute for Competition Law (IKartR)

Research Focus:

Competition law; focus on media and IT cases; interplay of Intellectual Property and competition law; fundamental questions of private law theory (evolutionary legal theory)

  • Expert in the Federal Parliament Hearing (Deutscher Bundestag) on the reform of German competition law in 2017 amd 2020
  • Main expert, appointed by Deutscher Juristentag, for recommendations on platform regulation for the 73rd meeting of the Deutscher Juristentag 2020/2022
  • Expert in a Hearing of the Federal Commission on media convergence, 2015, and adviser to the government parties on the reform of competition law for the press sector, 2016, expert in a parliamentary hearing on the Bayer/Monsanto merger, 2018, expert witness in the Federal Parliament’s commission on Artificial Intelligence, 2020.
  • Co-author of a study for the Ministry of Economics on the enforcement of consumer law (2017)
  • Reviewer of the Law against dubious trade practices for the Federal German Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (2016/2017)
  • Moderator of the European Competition Day 2020 (with EU Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager and Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier); speaker at the EU Commission’s 2019 conference “Shaping competition policy in the era of digitisation”; Non-Governmental Adviser to the International Competition Network (ICN); co-host of the 15th Annual Conference of Ascola, the Academic Society for Competition Law, 2020.
