Criminal clans: Gerrit Weber as a guest in LAW 100

Senior Government official Gerrit Weber from the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia was a guest in the lecture “LAW 100” with Professor Rupprecht Podszun at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf to discuss the topic of “criminal clans” with students. Mr Weber, who is a fully qualified lawyer, heads the minister's office. With open and clear words, he answered the students' numerous, sometimes critical questions about the government’s strategy. Gerrit Weber's visit had been prepared by first-year students Dilara Güngören, Kathrin Kopp, Marie Maicovec, Jillian Shepard and Lucas Wissmann.

The students had chosen the topic themselves in another class. The decisive factor for their interest was the consideration of how the rule of law can prove itself in structurally difficult fields. Incidentally, when choosing the topic, the students had tried out various procedures to test the role of procedural law in decision-making. This has already become a tradition in the LAW 100 lectures. In previous years, the students had chosen the topics "Uyghurs in China" and "Law and the Meaning of Life". In LAW 100, which is offered to first-year students, the attempt is made to combine current discussions with legal references. In this way, the students learn about basic questions of law.
