Research/Publications

The main subjects of research of the Chair are public law and administration. A special focus is placed on the fields of constitutional law of the Federal Government and the federal states (Länder), local government law as well as business administration law and environmental law.

In 2008, Prof. Dietlein published a commentary on gambling law, which has been the first one ever dealing with that particular area of law (2nd edition, 2012). He will shortly release the first Online-Commentary on local government law for the Federal States of Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Hessen, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia as editor and co-author.

Alongside the subject-specific publishments, Prof. Dietlein also dedicates himself to editing textbooks for students, in particular with the course book “Dietlein/Hellermann, Public Law in North Rhine-Westphalia” (6th edition, 2016) and a corresponding piece containing exam-training material (2nd edition, 2014).

A further important concern of the Chair is maintaining academic contacts with international partners. In addition to stays at the Spaienza-Università di Roma and the Università degli Studi di Salerno, Prof. Dietlein takes care of the ERASMUS-Partnership between the Law Faculty of the Heinrich-Heine-University and the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II in Naples.

Besides academic work, Prof. Dietlein has a rich experience and expertise concerning practical issues, namely with parliamentary hearings or legal representations in trials of fundamental importance.
